Ridgemont

Hillside plots, mature planting, and the county's largest private gardens.

Overview

Ridgemont is the oldest of the county's garden suburbs and remains its most private. Plots were laid out in the 1920s along the contour of the ridge, which is why almost every house here faces south-west across the valley.

Turnover is low. In a typical year fewer than thirty properties change hands, and a meaningful share of those never reach the open market at all.

Lifestyle

  • Private tennis and croquet club on Overlook Lane
  • Two prep schools within the district boundary
  • Ridge trail network — 14 km of maintained footpath
  • No through traffic above the second contour road

Local highlights

  • Overlook Lane

The address most associated with Ridgemont — eleven houses, each on more than half an acre, all with valley frontage.

  • The Contour Walk

A public footpath tracing the ridge from the eastern woods to the reservoir, with access points from most upper roads.

  • Ridgemont Green

A small parade of shops — grocer, framer, wine merchant — that has resisted chain tenants for four decades.
